Sailability

Carolyn Vincent’s Ubuntu Foundation’s association with Sailability in Queensland began with her support for the Graceville club’s recovery following the devastating Brisbane floods of 2022.

Sailability Graceville was established in 2014 as a charity, by an enthusiastic group of local volunteers and organisations. Supporters included Sailability Queensland, Oxley Sailing Club, Rotary Taylor Bridge and Pamphlett Sea Scouts. Graceville followed the successful establishment of previous Sailability clubs in Queensland dating back to the late 199’s. At time of flood, Graceville had become self-sufficient. Its fleet and volunteer team provided sailing for 35 to 40 people with disability each week, during school term. The flood severely impacted Graceville, including damaging boats, equipment and infrastructure. Generous Ubuntu funding supported Graceville’s recovery, making up for those important things like refrigeration and cooking equipment, that fell under the club’s insurance. We remain grateful.

Moving on from those beginnings in 2022, Carolyn saw an opportunity for Ubuntu to do much more for Sailability. So, for the past two years Ubuntu has committed to supporting each of the 14 Sailability clubs in Queensland. That support is growing the welfare of our volunteer networks, supporting expenses and fostering a safe, happy experience for our volunteers and sailor clients alike.
